    🌟 Recipe Overview

    • Easy! This banana bread comes together in less than 10 minutes!
    • Customizable. You can add any of your favorite add-ins, like chocolate chips, blueberries, or nuts!
    • Accessible ingredients. You most likely already have all the ingredients in your pantry.
    • Tender. This bread has the softest and most tender texture!
    • Healthier. This banana bread recipe is slightly healthier than most banna bread recipes as it doesn't use any butter or oil.

    🍌Ingredients & Substitutes

Ingredients for banana bread on a sandstone backdrop.

Bananas. For best flavor and texture, I recommend using ripe bananas. This recipe requires 3 medium bananas, however, if your bananas are bi,g you can use only 2.

Brown sugar. You can also use regular white sugar, however, I recommend brown sugar as it adds moistness and a deeper flavor.

Flour. This recipe requires self-rising flour. If you want to make this banana bread gluten-free, then you can either use a self-rising gluten-free flour or an all-purpose gluten-free flour like Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free 1:1 Baking Flour and add 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder.

Eggs. The eggs bind all the ingredients together and give the bread a fluffy and tender texture, I haven't tried replacing the eggs with anything.

🥣 How to make this banana bread

    Step 1: Make the Batter

Add the mashed bananas, eggs, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Mix well to combine all the ingredients. Next, slowly add in the flour and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter.

    Step 2: Bake

Transfer the batter to a greased loaf pan and place in a preheated oven. Bake at 180C/350F for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

    📖 Storage Instructions

Store this bread in an airtight container on the counter for 3 days, in the fridge for up to 6 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

    🫐 Flavor ideas

    • Raisin Banana Bread. Raisins go so well with banana bread as they add sweetness and tenderness to the bread.
    • Chocolate chips. Chocolate Chips Banana Bread is the ultimate classic!
    • Walnuts.  Add walnuts or any other nuts for a more nutty flavor and a bit of crunch.
    • Blueberries. Blueberries add moistness and are my favorite add-in to banana bread!
    • Cinnamon. Cinnamon adds a touch of warmth and packs the bread with so much flavor!

    👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

    • For the best flavor and texture, I recommend using ripe bananas.
    • Don't over-mix or over-bake your bread to make sure it comes out moist and fluffy.
    • Place a tea towel over the bread, this will help to trap in the moisture.
    • Line your loaf pan with parchment paper to make sure the bread comes out easier.
    • Leave the banana bread to cool down before slicing. This will let the flavors develop and the bread will have a firmer texture.
    • Using more bananas than what is recommended can create a denser texture and will take longer for your bread to bake. If your bananas are bigger you can use only 2 or 2 and a half bananas.

    💬 FAQ

How ripe should the bananas be?

For best flavor, use bananas that have at least a few brown spots.

    Can I use gluten-free flour?

Yes, you can. if you can't find self-rising gluten-free flour, use all-purpose gluten-free flour and add 3 ½ teaspoons of baking powder.

    Can I freeze banana bread?

Yes, wrap the bread in plastic wrap before freezing or place it in zip-lock bags. For easier use, I recommend slicing the bread before freezing it. Smaller slices defrost quickly than the entire loaf.

What is the best loaf pan?

I like to use an 8-inch pan as it gives me a taller loaf however, a 9-inch by 5-inch works perfectly well.

Why is my banana bread too dense and looks undercooked?

Maybe you've used larger bananas; using more bananas than what is recommended can result in denser banana bread and might require a longer time to bake. To protect the top of the bread from burning, cover the bread with aluminum foil and bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean

What is the best way to check if banana bread is baked?

The edges should be a deep golden brown and pulling away from the sides; the bread should bounce back when pressed gently with the fingertips, and a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread should come out clean.
