Why you will love this dairy-free smoothie
- Easy and refreshing- made with easy-to-get frozen fruit for easy cooling off on a hot summer day.
- Vegan and dairy-free - This recipe uses frozen fruits and plant-based milk with an option of dairy-free chocolate or chocolate chips.
- Inexpensive - Homemade smoothie is always a better option because with your ingredients you can always make more than what you will get at the smoothie cafe.
Ingredients & Substitutes
- Frozen strawberries: Frozen strawberries will give the smoothie a great blend of color and taste. Use frozen fruits to avoid having to add ice to your smoothie.
- Frozen pineapple: While frozen fruits are perfect for this smoothie you may use fresh-cut pineapple or freeze them the night before.
- Maple syrup: contributes a sweet taste to the smoothie and can be substituted with agave or honey.
- Coconut milk: Coconut milk adds a special flare to this Bahama mama Smoothie but you can use any plant-based milk. You may use apple or fresh orange juice but this might compromise the texture of the smoothie.
- White chocolate or chocolate chips: White chocolate will set this smoothie apart from any smoothie you have ever made but you can use white chocolate syrup instead.
How to make Bahama Mama Tropical Smoothie at home
Making this smoothie is quite simple. To get the most out of this recipe don't just add all your ingredients at once and blend. Follow this order for the best results.
STEP 1 - BLEND ONE PART OF THE INGREDIENTS
In a high-speed blender, first add coconut milk, maple syrup, or any sweetener of your choice together with white chocolate. Please chop the chocolate for an easy blending process.
STEP 2 - ADD THE FROZEN FRUIT
Once the first batch of ingredients is nice and smooth then go in with frozen strawberries and pineapple and blend at the high speed until you reach a smooth and creamy consistency. Your very own Bahama Mama Tropical Smoothie is ready to be served.
In a case where you don't have a high-speed blender, cutting the fruits into smaller chunks and defrosting the strawberries for at least 10 minutes before putting them into the blender will help ease the load for the blender.
Equipment
- Blender
- Serving glass or smoothie jar
Recipe Tips
- Try by all means to use frozen fruits because they will add a frosty texture to your smoothie compared to ice which will dilute the taste of the smoothie.
- Place your serving glass in the freezer for a few minutes before serving.
- You can use canned pineapple when you don't have frozen or fresh pineapple.
Recipe variations
- Protein powder or collagen powder: By adding these supplements to a tropical smoothie can be an excellent way to enhance its nutritional value.
- Shredded coconut: add a wonderful level of flavor, texture, and nutrition that really amplifies the overall taste of your tropical smoothie with shredded coconut.
- Coconut butter: Add about a tablespoon of coconut butter for a slightly sweet, nutty, creamier, and richer smoothie without using a banana.
- Avocado: for a creamier smoothie with healthy fats consider adding avocado to your smoothie.
Storage
This becomes a bit tricky because fruits rot very fast when liquified, the key to preventing this from happening to your leftover smoothie is to ensure that there is no air in your container. Try to fill up your airtight jar to the top and close it with a lid. You can store it for up to 12 to 24 hours max. If it changes color or has a funny odor then I will advise you not to drink it.
FAQ
Yes, you are welcome to do that. However, it will change the color and texture of the smoothie but it will definitely add nutritional value to your smoothie.
A stick blender with sharp blades can do the job as well, just be careful not to start at high speed if you are blending in an open jar because the ingredients might spill out of the jar.
If you are using fresh fruits yes you may have to add ice for a refreshing drink but there is no need if you are using frozen fruits. You may want to use less ice as it can dilute the taste of the smoothie.
Yes of course, just add less liquid and a banana to make it thicker.
